What is rhodium plating?
Rhodium plating is used to enhance the luster and durability of metals such as silver and white gold, and it gives a smooth, shiny finish to the jewelry. It is especially attractive when used for diamond rings, as it can really enhance the brilliance of the diamond.
How is rhodium plating performed?
Rhodium plating is an electroplating process, which requires the surface to be clean and free of containminants. Jewellery is thoroughly buffed and cleaned to achieve optimum result. Once cleaned, rhodium plating is performed using electro-plating process.
How often does my jewellery need rhodium plating?
The frequency of rhodium plating depends on how much wear and tear the jewellery endures. Frequecy of use on the jewellery, as well as its exposure to chemicals (such as chlorine and sanitizer) all increase the need to re-rhodium plate. For rings, most rhodium plating last between 12 to 18 months. However, with frequent hand wash and hand-sanitizing, it may last between 8 to 12 months.
